Rt Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa | Hon Solomon Akpolonu

The member representing Obingwa East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu, has been suspended for 14 sitting days.

Making the pronouncement on the floor of Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday, The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, said the 8th Abia House of Assembly cannot tolerate acts of insubordination, adding that Hon. Akpulonu has been inciting members of the House against the leadership of the 8th Assembly.

He pointed out that it was absolutely wrong for the lawmaker to be granting press interviews and revealing all the House has been doing, without proper clearance from the leadership of the House, insisting that what is done in the House should remain in the House.

Rt.Hon. Emeruwa, said Hon. Akpulonu has been causing chaos in the Assembly since it’s inauguration, stressing that he has tolerated for too long, maintaining that as lawmakers, it is normal to disagree as long as it is done with decorum within the confines of the law.

The Speaker further said even as the Hon. Akpulonu was not present during plenary, his suspension will be communicated to him immediately.

Recall that the 11 PDP member in the 8th House of Assembly, have staged several protests that the majority seat, among others be given to the PDP since they conceded the speakership and deputy speakership seats of the House to Labour Party who are 10 in number, but the leadership of House went ahead to announce member for Arochukwu, Hon. Okoro Uchenna as the majority of the House which further angered PDP members in the House.

Recall again, that the Speaker of the House, has also failed to read out the PDP letter nominating her members for majority leadership positions which also led to another peaceful protest and the subsequent rowdy session during their last plenary on 11th of July 2023.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach Hon Solomon Akpolonu seem abortive, a source that spoke to newsmen on anonymity grounds said Hon Akpolonu was absent at today’s plenary session following the suit filed by Azubuike Peter Chigozie, challenging his election at the tribunal sitting in Umuahia.
