NEW ABIA: WE SACKED ABOUT 7000 WORKERS, OTTI FINALLY ADMITS | #NwokeukwuMascot

The Governor of Abia State, Mr. Alex Otti has finally succumbed to admitted sacking about 7000 Abians from the state civil service.

The Governor's mass sack of about 7000 Abia workers was disclosed by Prince Okey Kanu his Commissioner for information during a press briefing after their Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

The information commissioner confirmed that about 7000 Abia Civil servants, whom he alleged were illegally employed from January to March, 2023 were sacked from the state civil service.

However, many Abians are questioning the rationality in sacking innocent Abians on the premise that their employment was illegal. They wondered how an action taken by a government within its lawful tenure in office could be illegal.

Conversely, it is agreed that an employment without approved waiver and done without due process is illegal, but in the instance, it didn't seem it was the case of the 7000 workers that have been relieved of their jobs.

Furthermore, these worried Abians are urging government to review the mass sack of these 7000 workers with a view to restating those with approved waivers. They opined that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria allocated a (4) year tenure for Governors and the immediate past Governor had authority till noon of 29th, May, 2023.

Finally, Abians still awaiting the government to make public, names of the purported ghost workers, their Ministry, Department and Agency that engaged them. Also the bank accounts used in collecting their salaries.
