The immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D., has been honored with the Michael Okpara Leadership Award, the Premier’s Prize, during a prestigious ceremony held today.
The award was presented by the former Governor of Cross River State, Clement David Ebri, to Mr. Enyinnaya Appolos, who represented Dr. Ikpeazu on behalf of the Michael Okpara Leadership Program, the organizers of the annual event.
Mr. Appolos, who previously served as Chief Press Secretary and media adviser to Dr. Ikpeazu, shared the news on his verified Facebook page. In his post, he expressed his pride in representing his former boss at the ceremony in Abuja.
“I had the rare privilege of representing my Principal, the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and receiving the Michael Okpara Leadership Award, the Premier's Prize, on his behalf today in Abuja,” he wrote.
He also reflected on the legacy of Dr. Michael Okpara, who served as the Premier of the former Eastern Region of Nigeria from 1959 to 1966, noting the significance of the award.
On a lighter note, Mr. Appolos added a bit of humor to his announcement, saying, “Receiving the Premier's Prize on behalf of a former governor, presented by another former governor, has left some wondering—could this be a sign of things to come? I’m sure the ‘bad belle’ people won’t like to hear this!”
