Facts have emerged regarding a tragic incident in Lagos State, where a Nigerian policeman fatally shot his colleague during a verbal altercation over a second-hand phone.
A press statement issued by the police authorities confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the shooting.
The statement revealed that the incident occurred on August 8, 2024, involving police aides assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
According to the statement, “On August 8, 2024, at approximately 10:22 p.m., the Control Room received information that a police officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto, who was assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda, shot and killed Gabriel Audu, a member of the same lawyer’s security detail.
“Upon receiving the report, a police team proceeded to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where the suspect, Corporal Umar Lawal (F/No 510570), was apprehended. His AK-47 rifle, used in the shooting, was also recovered.
“He confessed to the crime, stating that he intended to shoot Vincent, also known as Dogman, who had been arguing with him over a used phone he had purchased.
“Unfortunately, the bullet struck the deceased in the chest. Gabriel Audu was taken to LUTH General Hospital Idiaraba, where he was pronounced dead.
“The body has been photographed and placed in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.”
