Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed his willingness to consider a vice-presidential position in the 2027 general election, provided he encounters a candidate he believes can perform better than him.

Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, made this statement during an exclusive interview with New Central TV, which was later monitored by *Sahara Reporters* on YouTube. He emphasized that his primary ambition is to see Nigeria progress, rather than focusing on personal political advancement.

When asked if he would accept the role of vice president in 2027, Obi responded, "Quite frankly, for me, I’m not desperate to be Nigerian president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work. If I see people who can do the work better, I will consider being vice president. I even have people who say I should not run in 2027, and I said to them, offer yourself. And we will not put everybody on a scale."

Despite these reflections, Obi made it clear that he would remain with the Labour Party, though he is open to collaboration with other politicians whose goals align with his vision for the country. "Yes, I would stay with the Labour Party, and if anybody comes to negotiate or form an alliance, they must show me their purpose. I will not join anyone for state capture or just to win an election. I want to know how we will ensure no child is left behind and how we will get millions of out-of-school children back into education," Obi stated.

However, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party, led by Julius Abure, has recently called for an investigation into Obi, activist Aisha Yesufu, Pastor Itua Ighodalo, and leaders of the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere. The NWC alleges misappropriation of campaign funds during the 2023 presidential race.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abeokuta, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, raised concerns about the diversion of over N12 billion and $15 million in donations intended for the party's 2023 presidential campaign. Arabambi accused Obi, Yesufu, and Ighodalo of orchestrating the fraudulent mismanagement of these funds.

Describing Obi as a "political merchant," Arabambi criticized Yesufu’s public statements defending herself, dismissing them as attempts to obscure the truth. The allegations also implicated leaders of Afenifere, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Akin Osuntokun, and Sola Ebiseni, who were accused of retaining over N600 million in private accounts meant for the party’s campaign.

The case is now calling for further investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Security Adviser (NSA).
