Gov Otti at the Verge of Swallowing His Vomit as He Secretly Reaches Out to Presidency Over Defection Plans | #NwokeukwuMascot

Fresh indications have emerged that Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, may be on the verge of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC)  a move that contradicts his earlier public stance and anti-establishment rhetoric.




According to reliable sources, the Governor has been making covert overtures to the Presidency in recent weeks, exploring possible terms for his defection to the ruling APC. The development comes amid mounting internal crises within the Labour Party (LP), which recently suspended Otti over allegations of highhandedness and unilateral decisions that have deepened divisions in the party.




Political observers say the Governor has become increasingly jittery following the wave of high-profile defections to the APC across the Southeast, and the growing perception that the Labour Party is fast losing grip both in Abia and at the national level.




Adding to the Governor’s unease is the weighty petition currently before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against him and his administration over the alleged non-existent ₦54 billion school projects reportedly listed in the December 2024 SEFTAS report. The petition, which has also been brought to the attention of the Presidency and other anti-corruption bodies, accuses the Abia State Government of inflating and misrepresenting figures for educational infrastructure projects that were never executed.



Insiders suggest that the Governor’s sudden move towards the APC may be an attempt to secure political cover and soft landing amid the growing scrutiny over the alleged financial discrepancies and his fast-declining public confidence.




Ironically, while many of his supporters and members of the ‘Obidient’ movement continue to criticize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration blaming it for the current economic hardship and Nigeria’s recent designation by the U.S. as a “country of great concern” Governor Otti is said to be quietly negotiating his own political future with the same administration.




A source close to the Presidency revealed that President Tinubu is still reviewing the Governor’s proposal, even as key figures within the Abia APC remain divided over accepting Otti into their fold.



“Some party leaders see him as deceitful, manipulative, and not a team player,” the source disclosed. “Given what he did in APGA and Labour Party, they fear his entry could destabilize the unity and organic growth currently being built within the Abia APC.”



Analysts believe the Governor’s latest move is driven by political survival instincts, as the APC’s growing strength in Abia has positioned it as the likely successor in Umuahia. However, whether the ruling party will welcome him or reject his overtures remains to be seen.
