The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially acknowledged the receipt of a letter from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) notifying the Commission of the appointment of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as the Acting National Chairman of the party.

The letter, dated November 1, 2025, was signed by the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and addressed to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN). It conveyed that the decision was reached during a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) held on the same date.

According to the correspondence, the NWC unanimously resolved to appoint Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, the PDP Vice Chairman (North Central), as Acting National Chairman following the suspension of Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum from office. The party explained that the decision was made in strict adherence to the provisions of the PDP Constitution.

“The appointment of Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman is in line with the party’s constitution,” the letter stated. “We kindly request that all necessary steps be taken to recognize him in his new capacity. We would appreciate your prompt attention and response to this decision.”

Meanwhile, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed has since assumed duty at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, where he is expected to oversee the party’s administrative affairs pending further directives from the National Executive Committee (NEC).
