Dr Alex Otti joins Abia Waste Management Agency in Waste Evacuation Exercise in Aba.

This information was contained in a statement released by Gov Alex Chioma Otti’s CPS, Mr Kazie Uko yesterday the 19th day of June, 2023.

The immediate past administration had adjusted the state general sanitation time to 9am-11am every last Saturday of the month, following complains from Sabbath Worshippers in the state.

The statement reads in full: “The Abia State Government has changed the time for sanitation exercise to between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m every last Saturday of the month.

“Governor Alex Otti gave the directive to change the time from the current 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. to 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023, after a meeting with the Head, Task Force on Emergency Clean-up of Aba and Umuahia, Mr. Ogbonnia Okereke, who briefed him on the success recorded so far in the three-week-old assignment.

“The decision to bring forward the sanitation exercise was informed by the need to bring a larger number of the populace to participate in cleaning their environment early enough before they leave home for the day's activities.

“He commended the task force for the wonderful work it had done within the short period of time it was constituted and urged the team to engage landlords in both Aba and Umuahia; market leaders and all such organised groups for support in realising the objectives for which the task force was set up.

“Governor Otti also directed the task force to expedite action on its plan to engage private sector participants (PSPs) in the cleaning exercise, in order to conclude the assignment in good time and restore the two cities to an acceptable hygienic condition.” He concluded.

    It would have been better shifted to last Thursday of every month to respect worshippers on saturdays.
