 News   File Image  The military junta of the Republic of Niger has stated that the overthrown government had given authorization to France to conduct strikes at the presidency in an attempt to liberate the ousted leader, Mohamed Bazoum. The junta seized power last week and ousted the democratically elected President Bazoum. One of the coup leaders, army Colonel Amadou Abdramane, said on state television on Monday that the authorization was signed by Niger Foreign Affairs Minister Hassoumi Massoudou, who was acting as the prime minister, according to Reuters. Massoudou could not be reached for comment.  News   Mazi Nnamdi Kanu  The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), for an independent medical examination. Kanu's lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said the IPOB leader underwent a medical examination at an unnamed hospital in Abuja on Friday. Ejiofor's statement: “We are pleased to inform you that Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu met with his choice personal physician yesterday (Friday) in a hospital in Abuja, outside the facility of the State Security Service (SSS). “As part of the protocol, I witnessed the consultation. The medical examination was seamless and productive, and he (Kanu) will be progressing to the next stage soon.” Kanu has been detained by the DSS since June 2021 after being unlawfully extradited from Kenya.While in custody, Kanu repeatedly requested an independent medical examination of his health condition.

 News   Scene of the looting  At least four persons were reportedly killed during the youth rampage and looting of government warehouses in Adamawa State on Sunday.  SaharaReporters learnt that at about 8 am on Sunday, youths in their thousands attacked the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) warehouse at PZ Roundabout, adjacent to the Yola International Airport and carted away grains among other items. SaharaReporters reported that over 200 tricycle vehicles loaded with grains and other items left the NEMA warehouse alone, on Sunday morning. As further gathered, armed hoodlums took advantage of the situation to dispose residents of personal belongings, including cell phones. At least, four of the alleged looters were reportedly shot dead by security operatives during the rampage.
