PDP LOGO Barely 13 days to the expiration of the 9th Senate, Senators Matthew Urhoghide (Edo South) and Ayo Akinyelure (Ondo Central) on Wednesday dumped their political platform, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Urhoghide and Akinyelure, who announced their resignation during plenary, however did not announce the party they will defect to. The Senators’ notices of resignation were contained in separate letters read by Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, who presided over the plenary. Though Urhoghide and Akinyelure were silent on the party they will join henceforth, the Deputy Senate President who read the letters urged them to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Mr Festus Keyamo Former Minister of State for Labour Mr Festus Keyamo has lambasted Nigerians advocating for the retention of subsidy, explaining that there was no provision for subsidy in the 2023 Appropriation Act starting from June 2023. Executive Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti has rejected the podium which bears the SEAL of the Executive Governor of Abia State. Some suspects at the Lagos State office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are feared missing after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) prevented officials of the anti-graft agency from gaining access to their office in Ikoyi. Newsmen learnt from top sources in both agencies that over 500 EFCC officials were locked out and prevented from resuming work on Tuesday due to office ownership disagreements. The Department of Secret Service stormed the Lagos office around 7:00 am on Tuesday and refused to leave despite dialogue between operatives of both agencies. Meanwhile, it was learnt that the officials of the EFCC were shocked by the action of the DSS officers. President-elect, Bola Tinubu and Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima have both been sworn in as President and Vice President of Nigeria, respectively. The Oath of Office was administered by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kayode Ariwoola, on Monday. Tinubu, a former Senator and governor of Lagos State was declared the winner of the February 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The candidate of the All Progressives Congress polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, who polled a total of 6,984,520 votes in the election while Peter Obi of the Labour Party came third in the election with a total of 6,101,533 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
