2023: Atiku promises to support Wike for president in 2027

Worried by the danger posed to his ambition in next year’s presidential election by the camp of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has offered the governor a new deal. Both men met on Thursday in Abuja in a fresh bid to patch up their differences, with Atiku promising to support Wike’s own presidential bid in 2027 if he (Wike) agreed to sheathe his sword and support him (Atiku) in the 2023 election. The duo and their supporters have been locked in a face-off since June when the former vice president overlooked Wike and picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate. Previous efforts to reconcile them had failed to yield any positive result. Atiku even appeared to have decided to ignore Wike, and proceeded with his campaign while the Rivers State Governor and his supporters threatened to have nothing to do with the Atiku presidential campaign. Moment Young man bursts into tears after losing transport money to sports betting.

A young man left a sports betting centre with frustration and sadness after losing a the only money in his possession. He reportedly branched to a betting shop while on his way to work and used his transport fare to play virtual bet. Unfortunately for the young lad, the ticket cut and he lost everything. A video which surfaced online shows the moment his facial expression changed after realising that his money was gone. He subsequently burst into tears while walking out of the centre as he wondered what to do. Peter Obi doesn't need Campaign Council to win - Umeh

Senatorial Candidate for Labour Party (LP), Sen. Victor Umeh on Friday said the party does not necessarily need a Presidential Campaign Council to win the 2023 presidential election. Umeh said the apparent delay in constituting the campaign council was deliberate, saying the party leadership was taking its time to ensure the best team was galvanised. Nigerian Man Shot Dead While Testing Odeshi In Ebonyi State

On 29th Sept, 2022, Thursday night at about 10. 00hrs, one Onwe Nelson of Ndiagu Nwachi village shot Akpenyi Friday dead.  He is from Effia Ulo village, both in Umuogudu Oshia community, Ohaukwu LGA. This ugly incident occurred as a result of testing of protection charm popularly known as Odeshi, which Onwe Nelson claimed to have prepared Akpenyi Friday for. As at the time of this report, his body is still lying motionless at the compound of Onwe Nelson waiting for Police arrival. Meanwhile, the murderer is now on the run. Any one with useful information on how to get him should contact the security agents immediately.

Over 400 feared dead, as suicide bomber blows up Afghanistan educational centre.

Following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021, deadly bombings, often claimed by Islamic State, have become frequent. At least 19 people were killed and 27 others wounded in a suicide attack targeting an educational centre in Kabul’s Shia neighbourhood, security officials said on Friday. In a statement, Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said that the attacker targeted Kaj Educational Centre as a mock university entrance exam was underway. A member of the centre who asked not to be named told dpa that the attacker killed two guards and several students at the entrance gate before blowing himself up among the female students in the hall. Another eyewitness told local media that around 400 students were inside the establishment at the time of the attack. Unconfirmed reports suggest a higher death toll. A popular settlement along Abak road in Uyo, popularly known and referred to as Mechanic Village is currently having a serious physical combat between the indigen of Akwa Ibom and the Igbo community trader who predominantly dominate the market commercially. The fight which has left many injured began at the early hours of today.  Currently, no life is lost as the men of the Nigeria Police Force are fully on ground to maintain peace. The actual cause of the clash is yet to be identified. Fomer Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, on Friday apologised to Igbo people over his comments at the 2022 New Yam festival ceremony of the Mbaise People living in Ghana. Ihedioha in a viral video that had generated millions of comments allegedly called people who are supporting the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, saboteurs. Appearing on Channels TV Sunrise Daily programme which was monitored by our correspondent, Ihedioha said that his speech in Ghana was misconstrued and blown out of proportion. Apologising to the Igbo people, Ihedioha said that the word “saboteur” he used during his speech was not referred to the supporters of the LP presidential candidate but to his kinsmen whom he said were PDP members and were sabotaging the efforts of his party to reclaim power in Imo State in 2024. Nigerian Army Sacks Anambra Community In Reprisal Over Killing Of Five Soldiers, Shoot At Residents.

It has been reported that seven persons including five soldiers were ambushed and shot dead on Wednesday around Zenith Bank area in Umunze town. Troops of the Nigerian Army have sacked Umunze community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State in what appeared as a reprisal attack following the alleged killing of five soldiers and two civilians in the area on Wednesday. PDP Crisis: NWC members return N122.4m received from PDP.

No fewer than four members of the National Working Committee Peoples Democratic Party have returned N122.4 million paid into their accounts by the main opposition party leader . There had been media reports that the PDP’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, allegedly paid over N100m to the NWC members after the party’s primaries. The money was said to be part of the over N10 billion realised by the party from nomination fees paid by aspirants. The NWC members who returned the money are the National Vice Chairman (South-West) Olasoji Adagunodo, the Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja; National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Dan Orbih and National Women Leader, Prof. Stella Affah-Attoe. While Arapaja got N36 million, Adagunodo, Orbih and Effah-Attoe got N28.8 million each. But in a letter to the PDP leadership notifying Ayu of returning the money, Orbi wrote claimed that he was only notified of the payment by his bank without any description. Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has vowed to fix the flood problem at the Ariaria International Market, Aba and donated N10m to traders who lost their goods to the flood.  Ikpeazu, who stated this during a meeting with the traders at Government Lodge, Aba, explained that he will not be happy as a Governor if he concludes his tenure without putting an end to the flood menace at the  market which had defied past administrations.  The Governor stated that he had always been disturbed by the plight of the traders which was what necessitated him rehabilitating roads leading to the Ariaria market as well as commenced the remodeling of the market to meet international standards.  Stressing that there was no motorable road in Aba when he assumed office in 2015, Ikpeazu noted his efforts in rehabilitating the Ekwereazu –Akwa Ibom Road as well as Ukaegbu, Ehere and Faulks roads to boost access to the Ariaria market. Over 65% of containers from abroad end up in Southeast — NIWA

–Says everything in place for the movement of cargo in Onitsha Port. The National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, on Thursday, said over 65 per cent of cargo coming into Nigeria through the Lagos port ends up in Onitsha and Aba in the Southeast. Managing Director of NIWA, Dr George Moghalu, disclosed this when he featured at the 52nd Session of the State House Briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team, at the State House, Abuja. He also said that everything is in place for the movement of Cargo in Onitsha River Port even though he explained that it is the owner of the cargo that will determine the movement. Moghalu, who was providing updates on the agency’s activities, however noted that the current road network infrastructure cannot withstand the sheer volume of traffic required to move cargo from the southeast to other parts of the country. Fulani Herdsmen invade, destroy farms worth N50m in Enugu

There is palpable tension in Agu- Ekwegbe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State following the invasion and destruction of farms worth more than N50 million by herders while grazing their cattle. The owner of the farm, John Abonyi, lamented that Fulani herders have resorted to grazing their cattle on his farm. He regretted that all effort made by him and his workers to stop them from entering his farm hit the rock as Nigeria Police refused to come to their rescue even when one of the herders were arrested. Briefing journalists who went round the over three hectares of farm lands devastated by herders said that they invaded the farm he planted both maize and beans few days after he applied fertilizer on the crop.
