STRANGE; AS MR. ALEX OTTI SAYS NYSC GAVE HIM A REFERENCE LETTER IN PLACE OF THE USUAL DISCHARGE CERTIFICATE OR EXEMPTION LETTER.

The Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal rounds off with pre-hearing as parties adopted their issues for determination. 

In what seemed like a calculated attempt by the Labour Party to keep delaying proceedings  with endless applications; the Tribunal today, 14th, July, 2023 adjourned to 19th, July, 2023 for report of pre-hearing and subsequently enter the hearing proper.

In today's proceeding, the motion on Mr. Otti's refusal, neglect or inability to submit either his NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter was reserved for day of judgment by the court. 

The PDP and Chief Okey Ahiwe's legal team contended that it is strange for Mr. Alex Otti to include NYSC reference letter, after having submitted his university degree on oath to INEC without the usual accompanying NYSC discharge certificate or exemption letter.

Mr. Otti in his reply admitted that he didn't front load the said discharge certificate or exemption letter from NYSC because it was a reference letter that NYSC gave him.

The Petitioners prayed the Tribunal to hold that Mr. Alex Chioma Otti was not qualified ab initio to contest the Governorship Election as the said reference letter is not only strange but also abnormal. They concluded that Mr. Alex Otti didn't have NYSC certificate or exemption letter and thus; didn't include any in the documents submitted to INEC and also front loaded to the Tribunal. 

Recall, same Labour Party is challenging the Enugu State Governor's NYSC certificate, but the Abia Labour Party Lawyers are saying that, NYSC certificate or exemption letter isn't a constitutional requirement to contest for Governorship.
