In what may appear as final clash between the main Labour Party leadership in Obingwa and some members who joined the party days to the 2023 election with intention to hijack the party structure.

Confirmed reports showed that the group led by one Mr. Eric Egwuibe have already made several efforts to displace the elected party leaders and replace them with their own loyalists, a sinister move which have left the party in disarray.

Investigating the development, an insider who pleaded anonymity said problem started few weeks to the 2023 election when Eric Egwuibe formed a cabal who used the name of the party to extort money from the public claiming to be for supporting the campaign to which the elected chairman of the party, Evangelist Princewill Uzoma Nwauzo called for proper authorization to ensure participation of all relevant stakeholders in order to avoid abuse of the party's image and misrepresenting party's candidates.

The party accused the group of anti party activities which included disobedience to constituted authority and usurpation of the party's power and ordered the group to be disbanded until after the election while the people appointed by the governor to coordinate his campaign should focus on the assignment and not bring disrepute to the party. This infuriated the group hence the plot to replace the chairman using every means was hatched by the group.

Shortly after the 2023 general election the group came together again in what they labelled Obingwa Labour Party Stakeholders Forum without the consent or involvement of the party. A reconciliation move was later made by Prof Joel Ogbonna a serving Commissioner in the Otti administration to address the crisis. The peace move failed to yield a meaningful result as the group demanded that the party should report to them if the Chairman wishes to retain his job. They claim they have powerful people behind and that they would do whatever pleases them.

To resolve the crisis in the interest of peace and growth of the party, the party requested the group to forward the names of the supposed Stakeholders with a view to ascertain its constitution and verify its membership against those who may have worked against  the party and by extension disloyal to the Governor of the State. This became necessary as the party received report that the leadership of the group had coopted unregistered members of the party to the forum.

The group also refused to adhere to this instruction rather they resorted to blackmailing the LG chairman and openly boast that they will make the office uncomfortable for him as they had earlier warned. They claimed that Nwauzo must be removed at all costs for daring them. They claimed that they will make good use of their offices with the State government to crumble the party structure in the LG.

This threat they have made visible by illegally constituting another party leadership even when the current LG Chairman, Evangelist Uzoma Nwauzo is yet to serve out his tenure. The group have also formed their own ward executives of the party and have started holding a parallel meeting against the party's constitution.

In another development it was gathered that the party have reported the crisis to the State leadership of the party, the State Governor and to other relevant stakeholders in the State who are yet to carry out any meaningful effort to bring solution t the lingering crisis.

Obingwa is the local government of immediate past Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu PhD, Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of APGA and the current Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Abia South, Engr. Chinedu Onyeizu.
