The Owerri People's Forum (OPF) has lauded the decision by the PDP governorship candidate in Imo state, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to step down for  Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The group said Anyanwu's decision to back the incumbent governor has given Owerri senatorial district a great opportunity to succeed Uzodimma after his second term.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri on Thursday, the leader of the group, Chief Frank Ahumibe, thanked Anyanwu for listening to the wise counsel of the leaders and elders of the state and supporting the Imo Charter of Equity.

"We received the news with joy, that Senator Samuel Anyanwu has withdrawn from the governorship race. We are gladdened the more that he has openly declared to support the incumbent governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma.

"For months, we have been pleading with Anyanwu to see reasons to respect the power rotation agreement fashioned by all of us as leaders of the state. It is really cheering that he has finally bowed to the collective will of Imo people," Ahumibe said.

Recall that Imo people will be going to the polls on Saturday for the off-season governorship election in the state.
