Abia State’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe, has issued a response to the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal in Lagos. The court upheld the verdict of the Abia State Elections Petitions Tribunal, which confirmed Dr. Alex Otti as the duly elected Governor of Abia State in the 2023 elections.

In a statement released by Mr. Victor C. Nwokocha, ANIPR, the Media Adviser to Chief Ahiwe, on December 2, 2023, Chief Ahiwe urged his supporters to remain calm and expressed his gratitude to God, his legal team, and his supporters from various political parties. He acknowledged that the journey to reclaim their mandate through the judicial process would not be easy but emphasized that their focus remains unchanged.

Chief Ahiwe further commended his legal team for their courage and tenacity and called on his supporters to maintain peace and abide by the law. He assured them that his legal team would thoroughly analyze the Court of Appeal’s judgment and provide guidance on the next steps for him and the PDP leadership.

In his words: “When we embarked on the journey to reclaim our mandate through judicial processes, it was a calculated resolution and we were conscious that the journey would not be a sprint but a peculiar marathon with inevitable twists and turns. Our destination was clearly defined from the onset, and our focus is unchanged.

“So, at this juncture, our faith in God is renewed, as well as our solid confidence in the judiciary. I therefore encourage all my supporters to stay calm, keep praying to God, and look beyond the eclipse of transitional sunset.”

This ruling marks an important development in the Abia State governorship race, and Chief Ahiwe’s response reflects his determination to continue fighting for what he believes is the rightful outcome. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen what steps Chief Ahiwe and the PDP leadership will take next.
