  In a recent press statement, the Student Union Government (SUG) of the School of Nursing in Amachara, Abia State, announced the suspension of all activities at the institution. The decision was made in solidarity with the Preliminary Training Section (PTS) students, whose controversial exams have raised questions about the academic integrity of the institution.

Recall our earlier reports on how There was tension on Monday in Umuahia, Abia State capital as nursing students from four Schools of Nursing in the state protested their exclusion in the re-scheduled Preliminary Test Screening (PTS), exam.

The statement, titled “Urgent Action Required to Address the PTS Students Issue,” called for immediate action to resolve the concerns raised by the PTS students. It highlighted the distressing incident that occurred, where a significant number of PTS students were denied the opportunity to write their exams, while others proceeded as scheduled. The SUG deemed such disparities as unacceptable and contrary to their commitment to fairness and equal opportunities

The statement reads in full: “Today, a distressing incident took place regarding the Preliminary Training Section (PTS) students, which has caused significant disruption and dissatisfaction among the student body.


“A significant number of PTS students were unjustly denied the opportunity to write their exams, while others proceeded as scheduled. Such disparities are unacceptable and contradict our commitment to fairness and equal opportunities.


“Thereof, we want to emphasize that we stand in solidarity with the PTS students during this challenging time. We recognize their concerns and fully support their fight for a fair resolution to the issue at hand. The Student Union Government (SUG) has made an important announcement in this regard. Effective immediately, the SUG has stated that there will be no further exams, classes, or ward postings until the PTS issue is satisfactorily resolved by the management.


“During this period of suspension, we urge all students to remain calm and patient. We acknowledge that this situation may cause inconvenience and uncertainty, but it is crucial that we stand together in support of our fellow students. We will continue to communicate updates regarding the progress made in resoluing the PTS issue, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process.


“We urge the school management to take prompt action and prioritize finding a viable solution to the situation. The future of nursing education at Amachara deserves utmost attention.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this challenging time. Together, we can work towards the resolution of the PTS students issue and the future betterment of our school”.
