Abia State - The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Abia State has responded to the recent appointment of their State Chairman as Senior Special Assistant to the Transition Committee Chairman of the Umuahia North LGA.

Recall that we had earlier reported the appointment of the party chairman, Mr Chimezie Nelson as senior special assistant to the newly appointed Technical Committee chairman of Umuahia North LGA.

The party in a statement Signed by Hon. Bestman Eruba, Esq., YPP Abia State Publicity Secretary said that the appointment does not signify an alliance with the Labour Party and does not reflect the collapse of the YPP in Abia State.

The statement further emphasized that they are a party with a distinct manifesto, ideology, and principles outlined in their constitution. Therefore, the decision of an individual member to accept a personal appointment cannot be seen as the downfall of the party.

He partly said: “To address this development, the State Working Committee will consult with party leaders to review the situation and take appropriate actions in accordance with the party’s constitution, aiming to defend the party’s image and integrity”.

The YPP also wants to assure the public, their supporters, and members across the country that the party remains strong and intact. They express gratitude for the media’s inquiries, the love shown, and the solidarity of the people of Abia State who overwhelmingly voted for the YPP in the recent general elections. The party urges everyone to continue supporting the YPP as they recommit themselves to serving the people.

The statement reads in full: “The Young Progressives Party in Abia State have received with missed feelings the unfortunate news of the recent appointment of our State Chairman as Senior Special Assistant to the Transition Committee Chairman of the Umuahia North LGA, a development that has been misconstrued as the extinction of the party.

“We wish to state categorically that the Young Progressives Party is not in any official alliance with the Labour Party and doesn’t intend to do so in the nearest future.

“We are a party with distinct manifesto, ideology and principles as enunciated in our constitution accordingly the decision of an individual member of the party who in consideration of his private reasons has acted personally cannot be deemed as the collapse of the most prosperous party in Abia State.

“Consequently the State Working Committee will consult with leaders of our party to review the development and take appropriate action (s) in order to defend the image and the integrity of the party pursuant to the provisions of the party’s constitution.

“We also wish by this release to inform the general public, our teaming supporters and members across the country that the Young Progressives Party in Abia State is still very much intact and nothing can diminish our strength.

“We appreciate the avalanche of inquiries by the media, the outpouring of love and the solidarity of the good people of Abia State who massively voted for our party in the just concluded 2023 general elections and urge them to keep faith with the Young Progressives Party as we rededicate our passion to serve the people.” Hon. Bestman Eruba ended.
