In a press statement signed by Prince Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, it was announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be commissioning three roads that have been rehabilitated by the administration led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti. However, this development brings to light the slow pace of work by Governor Otti and raises concerns about the progress made during his leadership.

The press release, titled "President Tinubu to Commission Three Newly Rehabilitated Roads in Abia State," highlights the fact that these roads are part of a larger effort to improve the infrastructure in Aba. It is also important to note that Governor Otti's administration has only been able to rehabilitate nine roads in over nine months, raising concerns of lack of efficiency and urgency in addressing the infrastructure needs of the state.

The three roads to be commissioned according to the Abia information commissioner are Omoba Road, Jubilee Road, and Queens Street, which are majorly reasphalted and are undoubtedly important for the development of Aba. It is concerning that it has taken this long to rehabilitate just a few roads. This slow pace of work raises questions about the effectiveness of Governor Otti's administration in delivering on its promises to the people of Abia State.

The statement reads in full; “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR will on Monday February 26, 2024 commission another set of three roads rehabilitated by the administration of Governor Alex  Chioma Otti, OFR.

“The roads to be commissioned are:Omoba Road, Jubilee Road, Queens Street. Unarguably, this is Mr President's first  commissioning of a road constructed by the current set of Governors in Nigeria. It equally marks the 9th road being commissioned in Aba since Dr Alex Otti, OFR took over the reigns of power in the State eight  months ago.

“This exercise is in addition to the commissioning of the Geometric Power Plant in Aba on Monday , February 26th by Mr. President; a power plant that will provide uninterrupted power supply to  Aba and its environs.

“While the government and people of Abia State welcome Mr. President to Abia State, particularly, the Enyimba city; the hub of commerce and entrepreneurship in Nigeria ,nay Africa, we enjoin citizens and Aba  residents to troup out en masse to witness the epoch making events.“ He ended.

In addition to the road commissioning, President Tinubu will also be inaugurating the Geometric Power Plant in Aba, which is expected to provide uninterrupted power supply to the city and its surroundings. While this is a positive development, it cannot overshadow the concerns regarding the slow pace of work in other areas of governance.

As the government and people of Abia State welcome President Tinubu to Aba, known as the hub of commerce and entrepreneurship in Nigeria and Africa, it is crucial to address the issues of inefficiency and delayed progress. The citizens and residents of Aba are encouraged to come out in large numbers to witness these events, but they also deserve to see tangible results and improvements in their daily lives.

It is imperative that Governor Alex Otti takes note of these concerns and works towards expediting the pace of development in Abia State. The people of Aba and the entire state deserve a government that is proactive, efficient, and committed to delivering on its promises.
