Abia Central Senatorial District - In the wake of a shocking incident at the Umunkpeyi Nbawsi Military checkpoint in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State, Senator Austin Akobundu has called for calm and a thorough investigation into the alleged murder of a constituent by Naval Personnel.

Expressing his deep sorrow and concern, Senator Akobundu emphasized the need for a comprehensive examination of the tragic event. In a statement released from his office in Abuja, he stated, "My attention has been drawn to a viral video on social media of the loss of a young and vibrant man allegedly in the hands of Naval Officers at a checkpoint. This is a tragedy that has shaken all of us to our core and thrown his family and loved ones into grief and mourning."

The Senator extended his condolences to the grieving family and acknowledged the brave efforts of the deceased's elder brother, Elder Chikezie Orji, who documented the aftermath of the incident to shed light on the gravity of the situation and seek justice for his sibling, who recently got married. 

Senator Akobundu assured the public that his office would not turn a blind eye to the injustice, pain, and suffering inflicted upon the family and the people of Umunkpeyi. He pledged to take necessary steps to ensure that justice is served and reiterated his commitment to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.

In his quest for justice, Senator Akobundu has initiated discussions with the military authorities to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted, aiming to uncover the truth behind the tragic loss of life and ensure that those responsible face appropriate consequences.
