The story of the Geometric Power Plant cannot be told without giving special mention to former Governor Ikpeazu. It was through his deliberate efforts and intervention that the commissioning of this plant became a reality.

In 2015, a heated ownership battle between Prof Bath Nnaji and Chief Emeka Offor had stalled the progress of the Aba power plant. However, when Ikpeazu assumed office as Governor, he played a crucial role in resolving the dispute. He liaised with Vice President Osinbajo and the then Minister of Power, Fashola, to bring about a resolution. We express our gratitude to Prof Osinbajo and Fashola for their assistance in settling this dispute.

The Immediate past Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu also made a significant financial contribution to the plant by acquiring shares worth about N 2 billion on behalf of the Abia Government, making Abia State a part owner of the power plant, owning over 5% shares of the company. This injection of funds allowed Geometric to continue the construction of the plant when financing from banks had ceased. Additionally, many other individuals from Abia State invested in the plant, demonstrating their commitment to its success.

Another important role played by Ikpeazu was supporting Prof Nnaji in securing a release of $50 million from Afrexim Bank for the construction of the plant. This involved several visits to South Africa and Egypt, accompanied by influential Igbo personalities, whose names we may not mention here.

We won't faill to extend our gratitude to Mr. Pascal Dozie, the MD of Afrexim Bank, Benedict Oramah, and others who played their part in ensuring the realization of this project.

It is worth noting that on Monday, February 26th, the multi-million Geometric Power Plant will commence the distribution of power to residents in the Aba mega city, which includes nine local government areas: Aba North, Aba South, Obingwa, Osisioma, Ukwa East, Ukwa West, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, and UGWUNAGBO local government areas.

Aba Geometric Power Integrated Company will become the first electricity company in Nigeria to generate and distribute power independently through gas. Aba will be separated from the national grid. The company has already laid a pipeline to distribute gas from Owaza to their station in Osisioma. With a 99% certainty, Aba will soon enjoy 24/7 electricity. We encourage residents to go and get a prepaid meter for their convenience.
