A tragic incident unfolded at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) as Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a dedicated Veterinary Technologist, lost his life in a shocking lion attack. The 9-year-old male lion fatally mauled Olawuyi while he was diligently carrying out his duties at the Zoological garden.

Despite the heroic efforts of his colleagues, the attack resulted in severe injuries that tragically led to Mr. Olawuyi's passing, as confirmed by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre.

In response to the heartbreaking event, the aggressive lion has been euthanized by the authorities. Mr. Olawuyi, who had been caring for the lions for over nine years, met a tragic end in the line of duty.

The University management has reached out to the deceased's family to offer condolences and support during this difficult time, urging them to seek comfort in faith. Additionally, Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE has initiated a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, aiming to shed light on both the immediate and underlying causes.
