New details have emerged regarding the Nigerian government's approval of N2.5 billion for Senate President Godswill Akpabio's constituency empowerment projects.

The funds are allocated for the procurement of essential items such as deep freezers, generators, and other empowerment tools aimed at benefiting the people of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.

A screenshot of the budget, shared by social media critic Mahdi Shehu on X, reveals that the Federal Ministry of Women's Affairs has included five different empowerment projects for the residents of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, with a budget of N500,000,000 allocated to each project.

The projects, titled "Empowerment of Women with Deep Freezers, Generators, and Other Empowerment Items to Boost Daily Earning in the Two (2) Local Governments of North West Senatorial District at 250M each (IΚΟΝΟ & ABAK)," aim to enhance the economic well-being of women in the region.

However, it is important to note that Senator Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North Senatorial District, recently revealed that certain "senior" senators received N500 million each from the 2024 budget.

These claims were made amidst controversy surrounding budget padding allegations raised by Senator Abdul Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central Senatorial District.

Senator Ningi alleged that the Senate leadership had inflated the 2024 budget by N3.7 trillion, with the National Assembly passing a budget of N25 trillion for the fiscal appropriation year. This figure contrasts with the N28.7 trillion being implemented by the federal government, leading to the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi.

These revelations have sparked public outrage, with many Nigerians expressing their disappointment in Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The situation remains a topic of intense debate and scrutiny.
