Hon Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, the Lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State constituency in Abia state House of Assembly (ABHA), expresses deep sorrow over the passing of former Abia state Governor, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu. Dr. Onu, who served as the first Abia Governor from January 1992 to December 1993, is remembered as a dedicated and selfless advocate for democracy.
In a Press Release issued by Erondu Jnr's spokesperson, Mr George Egejuru, it is emphasized that Dr. Onu was a visionary leader who left a lasting impact through numerous significant projects during his tenure.
Erondu Jnr penned his admiration for Dr. Onu's unwavering commitment to defending democracy during challenging times, when it faced threats from powerful forces.
"Dr. Onu was at the forefront of the defense of democracy at a time it faced the threat of extinction by powerful forces.” Erondu said.
The news of Dr. Onu's passing in Abuja according to the member representing Obingwa west state comes as an immense loss not just Abia state but the entire South-East region and also to Nigeria as a whole.
His words, "His death today in Abuja leaves us with innumerable memories of his life as an astute academic and a renowned politician" He ended.
The Chairman, House Committee on Public Service, Erondu jnr offers his heartfelt prayers for the late Dr. Onu, hoping that he finds eternal peace, and extends his condolences to Dr. Onu's friends and associates during this time of mourning.
