Abia State was thrown into turmoil yesterday as civil servants, particularly staff members of the Town Planning Authority, took to the streets to demand the payment of their 6 months overdue salaries. The unpaid salaries, spanning from November 2023 to April 2024, are owed by the Alex Otti-led government.

The civil servants, frustrated by the prolonged non-payment of their salaries, expressed their grievances through a peaceful protest. They marched through the streets of Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, carrying placards with messages demanding justice and fair treatment.

In addition to the street protest, the aggrieved civil servants also visited local radio stations, Magic and Enyimba FM, to amplify their plight and lay their complaints. They voiced their concerns over the financial hardship they have been enduring due to the non-payment of their wages.

The protest raises questions about the fulfillment of promises made by the government regarding timely salary payments. Civil servants, who play a vital role in the smooth functioning of the state, expressed disappointment and frustration over the situation. The protest serves as a reminder of the critical importance of addressing the financial well-being of public servants, who are the backbone of any functioning society.

The civil servants are now anxiously awaiting a response from the government, hoping for a resolution that will alleviate their financial burdens and restore their trust in the system.
