Enugu State lawmakers are currently voicing their disapproval over the acquisition of Jetour SUVs valued at approximately 40 million Naira as their official vehicles, despite an allocated budget of 85 million Naira for Toyota Prado Jeeps, renowned for their durability and cost-effectiveness.

These protesting legislators argue that if the allocated budget couldn't cover the intended vehicles, the governor should have sought a downward review and specified a more suitable brand for them.

Expressing their frustration, the lawmakers highlighted the apparent disconnect between the governor's lavish acquisitions—such as two Prado Land Cruisers worth 250 million Naira and two bulletproof Lexus Jeeps valued at 1.1 billion Naira—and their own predicament.

They questioned the rationale behind distributing rejected Jetour SUVs, particularly emphasizing their concerns about maintenance challenges, durability issues, and the lack of available spare parts and mechanics.

In advocating for locally made alternatives, such as Innoson SUVs, the lawmakers underscored the economic benefits, including job creation, support for indigenous industries, and a positive impact on the state's GDP.

Emphasizing the importance of respecting due process, they criticized the governor's unilateral decision-making and perceived disregard for the assembly's authority.

Furthermore, the lawmakers lamented the lack of support from the governor, citing instances where other state governors had provided vehicles, land, and constituency projects to their respective assemblies, contrasting it with their own situation.

They concluded by asserting their entitlement to suitable official vehicles as a matter of right, emphasizing the need for decisions regarding such matters to prioritize their welfare and the interests of the state.
