In a shocking turn of events, Governor Alex Otti has locked up the brand new Multi Specialist Hospital in Aba, denying the people of Abia State access to modern medical care. This move is believed to be a deliberate attempt to discredit the achievements of Dr Ikpeazu's administration.

The Multi Specialist Hospital, which was recently built and commissioned by former Governor Ikpeazu, stands as a testament to the commitment of his administration towards improving healthcare in the state. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and situated within the premises of the old Aba General Hospital, it has been hailed as the most modern health facility in Abia State.

Professor Kelechi Okonta, a highly respected Professor of Medicine and a Consultant Cardio Thoracic Surgeon, was appointed as the Chief Medical Director of the hospital by Governor Ikpeazu. His expertise and experience brought hope for quality healthcare services for the people of Abia State.

Barr Onyebuchi Ememanka recounting the unfortunate events in a social media post captioned, “For Governor Otti, the name of Ikpeazu must not be mentioned anywhere for good” recalled how the Multi million specialist hospital was commissioned by Engr Seyi Makinde over a year ago.

His post reads in full, “This is the brand new Multi Specialist Hospital in Aba built and commissioned by Ikpeazu just before he left office.

“Oyo State Governor, Engr Saying Makinde performed the commissioning ceremony on the 27th of May, 2023.

“Fully equipped with modern gadgets and clearly the most modern health facility in the State today, it is inside the premises of the old Aba General Hospital.

“Professor Kelechi Okonta, a Professor of Medicine and a Consultant Cardio Thoracic Surgeon from the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital was hired as Chief Medical Director of the Hospital by Ikpeazu.

“Governor Alex Otti came in and fired the Professor and locked up the hospital ever since, denying the people of Abia State an opportunity to access this beautiful health facility.

“The reason his Commissioner for Health gave was that the building does not have structural integrity and that there is no ventilation!

“For almost one year now, this place has been locked up and only God knows what has become of those high end brand new equipment installed there.” Ememanka said.

However, Governor Otti's decision to fire Professor Okonta and lock up the hospital has left Abians without access to this much-needed healthcare facility. The reason provided by Otti's Commissioner for Health is that the building lacks structural integrity and ventilation.

It is deeply concerning that for almost a year now, the Multi Specialist Hospital has remained closed, raising questions about the fate of the high-end equipment installed there. The people of Abia State are left to wonder about the potential benefits and opportunities for improved healthcare that have been denied to them.

It is evident that Governor Otti's actions are driven by a desire to erase any mention of Dr Ikpeazu's name and achievements. However, it is the people of Abia State who are paying the price for this political vendetta.

The denial of access to modern medical care in such a crucial time highlights the urgent need for resolution and the prioritization of the well-being of the citizens. The people of Abia State deserve better, and it is our hope that the situation will be addressed promptly to ensure their right to quality healthcare is restored.

We will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for the latest developments on this matter.
