Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), maintains control amidst the ongoing leadership dispute within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The party's national caucus recently convened and unanimously decided to allow Illya Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman, to remain in his current position, aligning with Wike's preference.
To ensure seamless continuity, the discussion on leadership changes will be deferred until the forthcoming national convention of the party, as announced during today's NEC meeting.
Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, unveiled the decision as a means to foster reconciliation and unity within the party. He further explained that the caucus has directed the party's leadership to establish a committee dedicated to discipline and reconciliation, with the aim of repairing relationships among all members.
"The NEC meeting will not entertain any discussions regarding leadership changes. Instead, our focus is on promoting unity and reconciliation.
"The caucus has agreed that all congresses at the state and local government levels should be concluded between June and August of this year.
"Additionally, the caucus has extended the mandate of the party's constitution review committee to accept new recommendations," stated Ologunagba.
