Tragic Incident in Amachi Nsulu: 27-Year-Old Man Allegedly Takes His Own Life | #NwokeukwuMascot

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 27-year-old man, identified as Jephthah Okezie, has reportedly ended his own life in Amachi Nsulu, situated in the Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, has left the community reeling in shock and sorrow.



According to sources close to the family, Okezie had recently returned from Bayelsa State before the tragic incident unfolded. Upon his return, he withdrew a sum of N75,000 and visited one of his sisters in Amaiyi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. He gave her N30,000 and ominously expressed his belief that he would soon succumb to depression.



Reports indicate that Okezie also confided in his immediate younger brother and another sister, sharing similar sentiments about his state of mind. Initially dismissed as jest by his family members, the gravity of his words became painfully clear when news broke that Okezie had taken his own life.



Neighbours residing in the same compound recounted Okezie's distressing last moments, revealing that he had ingested sniper and requested red oil in a desperate attempt to counteract its effects. However, his efforts proved futile as the lethal substance took its toll.



Upon discovering Okezie's lifeless body in his room, family members, relatives, and concerned individuals rushed him to Catholic Hospital Umunpkeyi. Tragically, despite the medical team's efforts, it was confirmed that Okezie had passed away. Doctors' attempts to administer treatment were met with insurmountable obstacles, highlighting the devastating consequences of his irreversible decision.

The lingering scent of sniper in the air served as a grim reminder of the harrowing ordeal that unfolded, underscoring the urgent need for mental health awareness and support within communities.


As investigations into the circumstances surrounding Okezie's death continue, friends and loved ones are left grappling with unanswered questions and profound grief, highlighting the critical importance of addressing mental health challenges with empathy and understanding.
