...Cleric Calls for Sincere Governance in Abia State | #NwokeukwuMascot

 Alex Chioma Otti

Abuja, Nigeria – Rev. Chika Ubani, a prominent cleric from Abia State, has urged Governor Alex Otti to lead with sincerity and avoid falsehood and propaganda. The call was made during an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, as Rev. Ubani reflected on the one-year anniversary of Governor Otti's administration.

"I am a big supporter of Governor Alex Otti and one of the people from Abia South who voted for him in the 2023 governorship election," Rev. Ubani stated. "He is currently reconstructing roads in Abia, originally built by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu. It is important for him to acknowledge who constructed these roads and who abandoned them, rather than tarnishing the image of others."

Rev. Ubani highlighted several roads, including Ehi, Kent, and Old Court, which were built during Kalu's tenure and are now being reconstructed by the Otti administration. "I am happy that he is reconstructing these roads and others," Ubani noted. "However, he should give proper credit and avoid propaganda, falsehood, and lies to move the state forward."

The cleric also expressed concern over claims made by Governor Otti's team regarding infrastructure improvements in Aba. "I was worried when his team told Nigerians that Aba now has 24/7 electricity. I received numerous calls from prominent Nigerians seeking to verify this claim. It would be more appropriate to provide accurate information instead of using propaganda to deceive the public. It is wrong to present our state as exemplary merely to gain political advantage," Rev. Ubani asserted.

Rev. Ubani further criticized the portrayal of Abia State's past governance as a period of stagnation. He referenced the Obi of Onitsha's comments about "24 years of wilderness" and defended the contributions of previous state leaders.

"We have had distinguished individuals such as Dr. Chris Akomas, High Chief Johnny Ukpabi, Dr. Sam Ahiwe, Awa Kalu SAN, Dr. Mrs. Ori Obasi, and Arua Arunsi serve as commissioners. Are we saying these men kept Abia in the wilderness? It is time for Governor Otti to focus on governance and stop spreading propaganda," he concluded.

As Abia State marks the first year of Governor Otti's leadership, the call from Rev. Ubani for honesty and transparency underscores the ongoing need for accountable governance in the region.
