Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has firmly refuted allegations that N10 billion allocated for the Abia Airport Project was diverted. In an exclusive interview, Ikpeazu addressed the accusations and provided clarity on the project's status and the decisions made during his tenure.


The Abia Airport Project, aimed at enhancing the state's infrastructure and economic prospects, has been embroiled in controversy following reports that significant funds were misappropriated. The accusations have led to widespread public concern and calls for an investigation into the project's finances.


Dr. Ikpeazu unequivocally refuted the diversion of any funds from the project. He explained that the decision to suspend the airport project was made during his administration, which has led to misunderstandings regarding the use of the allocated funds.


His words, "No dime was diverted from the N10 billion," Ikpeazu asserted. "We suspended the airport project, and today, when people talk about money for the airport, I believe they are questioning my right to change my mind as a Governor."


Ikpeazu elaborated on the rationale behind the suspension of the airport project. He emphasized that the decision was based on a thorough assessment of the state's priorities and available resources at the time. According to Ikpeazu, the funds initially allocated for the airport were reallocated to other critical areas that required immediate attention.


“It is within the purview of Governor to reassess and realign projects and expenditures. The decision to suspend the airport project was taken after careful consideration of the state's pressing needs.” He added.




The controversy surrounding the Abia Airport Project underscores the challenges of managing large-scale infrastructure projects and the importance of transparent governance.
