In a decisive move aimed at maintaining equitable representation, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned the position of State Chairman to Abia North. This decision was reached during a State Caucus meeting held yesterday afternoon, where the recommendations of the Committee on the Rotation and Zoning of Offices for the upcoming state Congress were adopted.

In a statement signed by Abia PDP Vice Chairman/Acting State Publicity Secretary, Elder Abraham Amah, the caucus endorsed the continuation of a rotational system that has been a hallmark of the party's organizational structure in recent years.

The press release captioned, “ABIA PDP ZONES POSITION OF STATE CHAIRMAN TO ABIA NORTH” stated that the positions previously held by representatives from Abia South will now be transferred to Abia North, those from Abia North will shift to Abia Central, and positions from Abia Central will move to Abia South.

“The Abia PDP rose from a  State Caucus meeting this afternoon and adopted the recommendations of the Committee on the Rotation and Zoning of Offices for the upcoming state Congress, which recommended the zoning and rotation of offices that has been followed in the past years.

“The State Caucus subsequently zoned the Chairmanship to Abia North as all the positions formerly held by Abia South was turned over to Abia North, all the positions held by Abia North was turned to Abia Central and all the positions held by Abia Central were turned over to Abia South.

“The motion for the zoning arrangement to be maintained was raised by Chief Chikwendu Kanu, former Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, and was seconded by the BOT Chairman of the PDP, His Excellency Senator Adolphus Wabara.

“The rotation of offices and zoning arrangement is in line with the Constitution of the PDP as a measure to ensure that all zones in the party are equitably represented and carried along at all times.” Amah stated.

This zoning decision underscores the PDP’s commitment to inclusivity and equitable distribution of leadership roles, reinforcing the party’s slogan: "Power to the People!"
