The University of Ibadan, located in Oyo State, is set to host the Annual General Meeting and Exhibition of the Association of Civil Engineering Students (ACES) on June 6, 2024.

This year's event, themed "Sustainable Engineering Solutions to Food Security and Climate Change," will feature Chimezirim Nnubia, an esteemed engineering graduate from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, as a distinguished guest speaker.

Engr. Chimezirim Nnubia, affectionately known as 'Fisher,' recently spoke with news correspondents about the event's theme. Nnubi who was also a former National Finance Secretary of Association of Civil Engineering students 2016/2017  emphasized the urgency of addressing the global challenges of food security and climate change, particularly in light of the growing global population.

“As the global population continues to rise, ensuring food security while addressing the challenges posed by climate change has become a critical priority,” Nnubia stated. He further underscored the vital role sustainable engineering plays in balancing the needs of human societies and the environment.

Nnubia highlighted the potential of advanced technologies and eco-friendly practices in creating systems that boost agricultural productivity, conserve natural resources, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. “By leveraging advanced technologies and environmentally friendly practices, engineers can create systems that enhance agricultural productivity, conserve natural resources, and mitigate the impacts of climate change,” he added.

During the interview, Nnubia stressed the necessity of integrating various sustainable engineering solutions to effectively address the interconnected challenges of food security and climate change. He pointed out that combining technology, renewable energy, efficient water management, climate-resilient infrastructure, and sustainable farming practices can lead to the development of systems that ensure a stable food supply while safeguarding the planet.

The ACES 2024 event is expected to bring together students, professionals, and academics to discuss and promote sustainable engineering practices. Engr. Nnubia’s participation underscores the significance of interdisciplinary approaches in tackling global issues and fostering a resilient future.
