Enugu State has launched its first computerized vehicle inspection service center, marking a significant milestone in the region’s transportation infrastructure. Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, inaugurated the facility and urged vehicle owners and transport operators to obtain roadworthiness certificates to minimize avoidable accidents and vehicle malfunctions.
The governor emphasized that this state-of-the-art center reflects his administration’s dedication to enhancing road safety, environmental protection, and the overall well-being of residents. He described the facility as a pivotal advancement in transportation safety and efficiency within Enugu State.
Governor Mbah highlighted that the new center, equipped with advanced technology, would provide thorough and accurate vehicle inspections. He expressed confidence that this initiative would not only decrease road accidents caused by defective vehicles but also reduce harmful emissions, contributing to a healthier environment.
Enugu State Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Mr. Valentine Chime, advised motorists to refrain from using the roads if their vehicles have not passed the inspection test. He noted that private vehicles are required to undergo inspections annually, while commercial vehicles must be inspected twice a year. In a goodwill message, Corps Commander Sokumbi Adeyemi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Enugu, stated that the facility would significantly reduce the number of mechanically deficient vehicles on the roads if properly utilized. He encouraged vehicle owners to support this important initiative.
Mr. Francis Ede, Secretary of the Association of Mass Transport Operators in Enugu State, expressed the association’s commitment to fully utilizing the new facility to ensure optimal vehicle safety and efficiency.
