The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Abia State Chapter, has issued a 21-day ultimatum to Governor Alex Otti, demanding the full implementation of financial and administrative autonomy for the Abia State House of Assembly. The ultimatum was detailed in a letter dated June 10, 2024, and signed by PASAN Abia State Chapter Chairman Comrade Sunday Kalu and Secretary Comrade Ugochukwu Ucheka.

PASAN's letter underscored the chapter's dissatisfaction with its performance since the suspension of the national strike in October 2023. The strike was initially launched to address issues concerning financial and administrative autonomy for state Houses of Assembly and the implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).

The association expressed frustration over the lack of progress despite directives from the national PASAN leadership and the June 10, 2024, consent of the Abia State Chapter Congress. PASAN is specifically calling for the establishment of the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission, which it deems overdue.

Additionally, PASAN is demanding the approval and implementation of CONLESS for the workers of the Abia State House of Assembly. The association warned that failure to meet these demands by July 5, 2024, would result in the resumption of the suspended strike.

The letter was copied to several key stakeholders, including the National President of PASAN, the Director of the State Security Service in Abia State, the Commissioner of Police, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Abia State Council.

PASAN emphasized the urgency and importance of their demands, expressing hope for a favorable and prompt response from Governor Otti.
