Of all the people that ran for President in 2023, Tinubu was the best - Former Labour Party member, Doyin Okupe | #NwokeukwuMascot
Doyin Okupe, a notable Nigerian politician and former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organization, recently expressed his belief that Bola Tinubu was the most qualified candidate in the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking in an interview on Channels TV on Friday night, June 7, Okupe reflected on the election and stated that, in hindsight, Tinubu stood out among the contenders.
Okupe, who actively campaigned for the Labour Party candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 elections, explained his revised perspective.
"Let me tell you, of all the people that actually ran for President in 2023, by the benefit of hindsight, Bola Tinubu is the best. I have seen Peter Obi, I have been with Atiku Abubakar, I also knew Bola Tinubu many years ago.
“I have not seen him in the last 7 to 8 years, that is not the point but he is the best in terms of capability, commitment and knowledge." Okupe stated.
Okupe emphasized that Tinubu’s leadership should not be judged prematurely, noting that he inherited a challenging situation where governance had seemingly been neglected for eight years. He urged Nigerians to give Tinubu more time to demonstrate his potential and capabilities.

When asked if his comments could be seen as a betrayal of Peter Obi, whom he ardently supported in 2023, Okupe disagreed. He clarified that his initial support for Obi stemmed from their shared belief that a Southerner should lead the country, which motivated their departure from the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Okupe's remarks have sparked discussions about the performance and future of Tinubu's administration, as well as the dynamics within Nigeria's political landscape. His candid assessment highlights the evolving perspectives among political insiders regarding leadership and governance in Nigeria.
