The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has firmly denied allegations that its militia arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), is involved in kidnapping and ransom demands. This declaration comes in response to claims by a group in Taraba State that ESN operatives had kidnapped several individuals and demanded a ransom of N20 million.

IPOB's spokesperson, Emma Powerful, issued a statement on Friday addressing these accusations. He emphasized that the ESN does not engage in such criminal activities and described the claims as baseless and false.

Powerful recounted an incident on June 13, 2024, involving a confrontation between ESN operatives and what he described as "foreign and local Fulani terrorists" in Biafra territory. According to the statement, ESN operatives intercepted these individuals, who were allegedly equipped with various charms and weapons. The apprehended suspects reportedly confessed that they were sent to destabilize the region, with some already stationed in Biafraland and more on their way.

“Their mission is to destabilize Biafraland,” Powerful stated. “After ESN operatives interrogated the terrorists, they were given the appropriate treatment and dislodged from carrying out their attack in Biafraland.”

Powerful further refuted the claims made by the Taraba group that ESN operatives had killed three individuals and were holding nine others for ransom. He clarified that the men intercepted on the night of June 12, 2024, were not fishermen, as claimed, but were part of the alleged terrorist group.

“The so-called Taraba indigenes should look for their terrorist brothers in one of the forests in the North. They have been dislodged from Biafraland and sent back where they came from. The terrorists are not in the custody of ESN,” he asserted.

Emma Powerful also highlighted the role of the ESN, describing its operatives as well-trained and disciplined vigilantes tasked with protecting Biafra territory from external threats, particularly from marauding Fulani terrorists.

IPOB's statement seeks to reassure the public, especially the people of Biafra, of the ESN's commitment to maintaining security and countering any threats to the region. The group continues to dismiss any association with criminal activities, maintaining its focus on safeguarding Biafraland.
