As Nigeria marks this year's Democracy Day, Mayor Lucky Obinwa Igbokwe has delivered a heartfelt message, celebrating the tenacity, resilience, and bravery of the people of Abia State and Nigerians across the nation in sustaining our nascent democracy.


In the statement captioned, “Democracy Day Message” Mayor Igbokwe acknowledged that while the nation has not yet reached its ideal state, significant progress has been made. He emphasized that democracy remains the only system of government that guarantees freedom of association and expression, fairness, and justice.


He also Expressed confidence in Nigeria's ability to overcome current economic hurdles, he remarked, "I am confident that we will surmount our economic challenges and come out a better, bigger, and stronger nation."


The Democracy day message reads in full; “As we mark this year’s democracy day, it is pertinent to applaud the tenacity, resilience and bravery of Abians and Nigerians in sustaining our nascent democracy


“Suffice it to admit that we are not where we ought to be, but we are better off for it today as a nation and a state. 


“Irrespective of the the economic and social challenges we are facing as a nation, Democracy remains the only system of government that guarrantees freedom of association and expression, fairness and justice and I am confident that we will surmount our economic challenges and come out a better, bigger and stronger nation.




“Under the current Democratic journey which started in the year 1999, we have made tremendous progress in governance at all levels and my wish and the wish of every patriotic Nigerian is that we keep improving on our electoral and governance systems as that is the only sure path to advance our democracy.


“I encourage us as citizens to remain loyal, patriotic and law abiding while urging the government to place the people above every other consideration.
