Nigerian Football Federation To Open Disciplinary Procedure On Victor Osimhen Over Ourburst Against Ex Coach Finisi George | #NwokeukwuMascot
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may in the coming days charge the first choice striker of Super Eagles, Victor Osimhen for improper conduct over his verbal attack on the former coach of the senior national team of Nigeria, Finidi George.
Finidi had been slammed by the Napoli forward who was angry over reports that the former coach questioned his (Osimhen's) commitment to the team.
Osimhen went all out on the coach on the reason why he missed the team’s world cup qualifiers games against south Africa and Benin Republic, which they drew 1-1 and lost 1-2 respectively to drop to 5th in their group, four points behind leader Rwanda.
“Already the president of the NFF, Ibrahim Muse Guseu, has spoken with Osimhen over his outburst and Finidi also reached out to him. The report he reacted to is fake, misleading and sadly he didn’t confirm bofore reacting”, a board member of the NFF told Owngoal Nigeria.
“Osimhen is a role model and the only way we can help the incoming coach stamp his authority is by using him to set example. He crossed the line with his outburst even when Finidi called him to explain he still didn’t doom it fit to retract his statements. We won’t condone that and after the Salah break, we will sit on the issue. I can tell you he won’t be in the team until he says sorry for his actions”, he concluded.
It would be recalled that we reported how Finidi George was accused of stating that Osimhen and other Super Eagles players appeared not committed to the team. Although the statement has been denied, there have been much controversies around the development.
Idah Peterside, a former Super Eagles Goalkeeper in a now viral video said Osimhen must apologise or be forced out of the Super Eagles team. He opined that Finidi George is a legend and such “disrespect by Osimhen” should not be condoned.
The relationship between Finidi George and Nigerian Football Federation had gone awry after reports had it that the federation wanted to hire expatriate coach following sequence of poor performances by Finidi George led Super Eagles.
Irked by the development, Finidi turned in his resignation, a new coach is yet to be appointed and Osimhen has not reacted to the news of his possible axe from the national team where he started from the under-17 team before growing to the senior national team.
