Aba, June 1, 2024 – Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the immediate past Governor of Abia State, has expressed profound sorrow over the recent killing of military personnel at Obikabia Junction. The incident, which occurred two days ago, involved unknown assailants and has been described by Dr. Ikpeazu as both barbaric and unacceptable.

In the statement signed by the immediate past Governor’s spokesman, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, Dr. Ikpeazu emphasized that the heinous act does not reflect the values and character of the people of Abia State.

The statement captioned, “IKPEAZU SADDENED BY KILLING OF MILITARY PERSONNEL IN ABA” Dr Ikpeazu highlighted the soldiers' role in maintaining safety and order, stressing the incomprehensibility of such violence against those on a lawful mission to protect the community.

“Immediate Past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed deep sadness over the killing of soldiers at Obikabia Junction 2 days ago by unknown persons, describing the act as barbaric and unacceptable.

“The former Governor stated that killing of the soldiers doesn't represent who we are as a people, noting that such barbarism against soldiers who were on lawful assignment to keep our people safe is difficult to understand.

“Dr Ikpeazu extends his deep condolences to the Chief of Army Staff and the hierarchy of the Nigerian Army over the unfortunate incident. He also sends his condolences to the families of the bereaved soldiers.

“The former Governor urges the security agencies to be thorough in their investigations into this incident and fish out the perpetrators of the crime. He, however, called on the Military authorities to exercise due restraint and professionalism during the process of investigation, and to ensure that innocent citizens are not made to bear the brunt of what happened.

“Dr Ikpeazu prays the Almighty God to restore peace in the land and protect our people.” Ememanka stated.
