Aba, Abia State – An ill-constructed water fountain in Abia State is causing significant concerns as it overflows onto Emelogu Ngwa Road, threatening the structural integrity of the recently reconstructed thoroughfare. The fountain, a project undertaken by Governor Alex Otti’s administration, has been spilling water onto the road for several months, turning a once-promising beautification effort into an ongoing headache for residents and commuters.



Situated in the bustling Ogbor-hill Axis of Aba, the recently reconstructed Emelogu towards Ngwa Road was meant to be beautified by a fountain designed to elevate the area’s aesthetics.

However, due to apparent construction flaws, it has become a persistent problem, with water constantly overflowing its chambers and spilling onto the roadway. The neglected fountain has turned into an eyesore and a source of frustration for the local community.



“The continuous overflow of water is not just inconvenient; it’s damaging the road we were so happy to receive,” said local resident Ifeanyi Nwankwo. “This road was meant to improve our daily lives, but now it’s being undermined by this poorly constructed fountain.”



Video evidence provided by concerned citizens shows water pouring out of the fountain and streaming across the road. The footage highlights the extent of the problem, with large pools of water forming on the surface, creating slippery conditions for vehicles and pedestrians.


This situation poses serious safety risks and has prompted calls for immediate government intervention.



Experts warn that the prolonged water exposure could compromise the structural integrity of Emelogu Ngwa Road. Continuous water flow can erode the roadbed, leading to cracks and potholes that will require costly repairs. Urban planning specialist Dr. Chika Okafor noted, “Regular maintenance is crucial for infrastructure like this. Neglecting such issues can lead to significant degradation of the road, undoing all the benefits of the recent reconstruction.”

Despite numerous complaints from residents, there has been no visible action from the authorities to rectify the situation. The governor's office has yet to respond to inquiries about plans to address the malfunctioning fountain.




Residents are urging the state government to take swift action before the problem escalates further. They stress the importance of addressing the root cause of the overflow and implementing a permanent fix to prevent further damage to the road.
