News   Kayode Egbetokun The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the involvement of Nigerian police officers in protecting foreign hackers arrested for cybercrimes, describing their actions as "illegal." The statement follows the Nigeria Police Force's announcement on November 4 that 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals and 17 Nigerian accomplices, were arrested for hacking and high-level cybercrimes threatening national security. The group, primarily composed of Chinese and Malaysian nationals, had been under police protection before their arrest, a revelation that prompted outrage within the force. Egbetokun confirmed on Monday that the officers involved had been apprehended and were currently in detention. “These policemen were on illegal duty. They were not properly deployed for this assignment, and their actions have been disowned by their commander,” said Egbetokun, speaking at a workshop on the standardisation of criminal investig...

Opinion   PENSION THIEF INDEED by Barr Onyebuchi Ememanka | #NwokeukwuMascot File Image Since the news of the arrest of the young man, Onyekachi Nwabueze broke, I have kept a studied silence. The reason for my silence is that this is an issue of law and media grandstanding, especially at that initial stage doesn't help much.  I am a senior lawyer and I didn't want to be carried away by the media razzmatazz.  The moment Ferdinand Ekeoma started issuing statements anyhow as if he was now the Spokesman of the DSS, I immediately knew that the government had a bad case on their hands and were dwelling on scapegoatism. Ferdinand went as far as telling us that the boy has even confessed to the crime. So the DSS told Ferdinand that the boy has confessed to stealing pension funds? Wonderful!  Anyways, Ferdinand even stylishly exonerated himself when in responding to a comment on that post, he told the person that he should learn to differentiate between his personal v...

Opinion   Believe Abia State Government At Your Peril by Don Norman(Agu Ibeku) | #NwokeukwuMascot File Image Yesterday, I called Afara prison welfare and spoke with Onyekachi Success Nwabueze on the phone for close to 30 minutes.  I repeat, the Otti government arrested him ab initio for allegedly leaking official documents to the opposition. When no evidence was found, the DSS presented a petition of cyber-bullying against him by a lady. Again, nothing substantial was found to establish a case of cyber-bullying against him. While searching through his phone for evidence, the DSS stumbled on a conversation he held in 2020 with  a former auditing staff of the Abia State government, Kelvin, who stays abroad. Kelvin resigned from the civil service and relocated abroad in 2020. That was how the Abia State government quickly grasped the matter with both hands and started its Mike Ejiagha story of multi-million naira stolen pension funds.   Beyond the repulsive gran...
