VIDEO: Abia PDP to Unveil Shadow Government, Pledges to Hold Ruling Party Accountable | #NwokeukwuMascot

Umuahia - The newly elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Elder Abraham Amah, has announced plans to establish a “Shadow Government” as part of the party’s strategy to ensure accountability and effective governance in the state. Elder Amah made this disclosure on Monday at the PDP Secretariat in Umuahia, shortly after the inauguration of the new executive members who emerged from the November 3rd State Congress.





Elder Amah emphasized that the primary aim of the Shadow Government is not to engage in unnecessary criticisms of the current administration but to provide a constructive interface with the state government by offering solutions for better governance. According to him, the PDP’s Shadow Government will be the largest of its kind in any democratic setting within Africa, comprising equivalents of all state ministries, complete with “shadow” commissioners and other key appointments.





“We are mindful of the challenges ahead. In the coming days, we will unveil a brand-new Shadow Government that will be the most proactive of its kind in any region of Africa. 






“This team will mirror all existing ministries, with designated officials responsible for interfacing with the state government, ensuring they are held accountable and deliver nothing short of good governance to the people of Abia State,” Elder Amah stated.





In addition to the Shadow Government, Elder Amah announced plans to introduce the “Abia Agenda Magazine,” which will serve as the party’s mouthpiece. He noted that the magazine will keep Abians informed about state affairs and highlight the PDP’s policy recommendations and activities.





As part of efforts to reposition the party, Elder Amah announced the dissolution of the PDP’s Elders Council. He revealed that Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, a respected elder statesman, would assist the party in selecting new members for the reconstituted council. Furthermore, the former Deputy Governor of the state, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has been tasked with developing a blueprint to reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen the party’s unity.

Recall, we earlier reported on the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executive of the Abia State PDP, led by Barr. Ukpai Ukairo, the South-East Legal Adviser of the PDP, who administered the oath of office to the new executive members. In his remarks, Barr. Ukairo congratulated the leadership and reminded them of the significant tasks ahead. He urged them to work diligently towards reclaiming power from the ruling party in the 2027 elections.





“I commend the newly inaugurated executive for their commitment and resilience. The task ahead is enormous, and I charge you all to put in your best efforts to ensure the PDP returns to power in Abia State,” Barr. Ukairo said.
