Abia Election Tribunal: Group Calls on Security Agencies to Investigate Alex Otti over Public Boast of Victory | #NwokeukwuMascot

 Dr Alex Chioma Otti

A group in Abia State, Abia Renaissance Movement, ARM, has urged relevant security agencies to investigate the governor of Abia State, Mr Alex Otti for publicly boasting of victory in a statement suggesting he has a pre-knowledge of the outcome of the judgement to be delivered by the tribunal.

The Abia State Election Petition Tribunal is billed to deliver judgement tomorrow, Friday, October 6, in the election matter brought against Alex Otti by the PDP and APC in the state.

In a broadcast on one of the private radio stations monitored by this news medium on Wednesday in Umuahia, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, was quoted as saying "I am bragging, if you like, from the angle of facts, from the angle of strength; I am anchoring my position on what transpired at the polls; what has transpired at the tribunal; the arguments that have been adduced, so everyone is convinced that come next tomorrow (Friday), Alex Otti's people-inspired victory will be upheld."

But in a statement signed by the Convener of ARM, Comrade Ukachukwu Chinonso and the Secretary-General, Comrade Mrs Maria Nwokoma and made available to newsmen in Umuahia on Thursday, the group said "With the recent sacking of some governors by respective tribunals, parties to the governorship election matters in Abia State ought to be sober in thoughts and temperate in their statements rather than sound so braggadocious the way Ferdinand Ekeoma sounded on radio."

A part of the statement reads:

"Having listened to Governor Alex Otti through his special adviser on media and publicity boasting on radio of victory at the tribunal, we are left with no choice but to conclude that the Otti camp must have attempted to supplant justice.

"Such wild boast of victory by Alex Otti in matters that Abians agree were well argued and robustly canvassed by the PDP and APC in court should have left all camps sober rather than sound so magniloquent.

"With the recent sacking of some governors by respective tribunals, parties to the governorship election matters in Abia State ought to be sober in thoughts and temperate in their statements rather than sound so braggadocious the way Ferdinand Ekeoma sounded on radio.

"In all honesty, we suspect a foul play. However, we believe that our judiciary will do the right thing no matter the Greek gifts of intemperate elements.

"We therefore urge Abians to ignore the rants of these people who have little or no respect for the judiciary by thinking they can dictate to their lordships the way they dictate to their servile subordinates in government.

"Lastly, we call on the relevant security agencies to take note of this dangerous development capable of causing disaffection in the state and investigate such boastful outbursts by Otti's camp over judgements to be delivered by an independent judicial arbiter", the statement concluded.
