Imo State, Nigeria - Athan Achonu, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Imo State, along with his supporters, staged a protest at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Thursday.

The protest was in response to the outcome of the November 11 poll, which declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.

The LP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected the results, citing irregularities in the election process. INEC announced that Uzodimma received 540,308 votes, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP who secured 71,503 votes. Achonu, on the other hand, only managed to secure 64,081 votes.
Accompanied by his supporters, Achonu demanded the Certified True Copies (CTC) of the election results conducted in Imo State. The protesters alleged that the results announced by INEC differ from the data stored in the commission’s server.

The protest at the INEC headquarters highlights the growing discontent and dissatisfaction with the electoral process in Imo State. As the LP and PDP continue to challenge the validity of the election results, the demand for transparency and accountability in the electoral process becomes increasingly important. The outcome of this protest and the subsequent actions taken by INEC will play a crucial role in determining the future of governance in Imo State.
