Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has revealed that the government is implementing a new work schedule for civil servants in an effort to address the economic challenges facing the nation.

As part of the measures to alleviate the economic hardship, Sanwo-Olu stated that civil servants from level 1 to 14 will now only be required to work from their offices three days a week. Those on level 15 to 17 will have to report to their offices four times a week.

During a media chat with journalists in Lagos, the governor explained that the new arrangement will be implemented starting next week. He assured that government operations will not be completely shut down, but rather a calendarized and scheduled system will be put in place.

Sanwo-Olu also mentioned that teachers in public schools will continue to work five days a week due to the nature of their academic responsibilities. To support them, the government will provide additional transport assistance for teachers in public schools.

His words: “From next week, we are working out a plan where civil servants from level 1 to 14 will come to the office maximum three times in a week,” the governor said.

“Not that all forms of government will be shut down. It will be calendarised and scheduled. Those on level 15 to 17 will miss work for one day.” He said.

In addition, the governor announced a 25 percent reduction in state-owned transport services, starting from the upcoming weekend. He also stated that discussions will be held with transport unions to explore the possibility of reducing fares for commuters.

Furthermore, the state government plans to partner with caterers and local food vendors in each Local Government Area to provide meals for at least 1,000 people daily. Additionally, “Sunday markets” will be opened in 42 identified markets to allow residents to purchase food items at a discounted rate of 25 percent.
