Enugu, Nigeria — The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has officially announced that local government elections will take place across the state on Saturday, October 5, 2024. 


We had previously reported that the federal government has sued Alex Otti, Hope Uzodimma, and 34 other governors of Nigeria, including Enugu state.


According to a statement released by the commission, all registered political parties and members of the public are encouraged to take note of this significant date. The elections are crucial for the democratic process at the local government level, impacting governance and development within the state.


To ensure a smooth electoral process, ENSIEC has made available the election guidelines and other pertinent details. These can be collected from the ENSIEC Headquarters located at Independence Layout, Enugu. Interested parties are advised to obtain this information promptly to facilitate proper preparation for the upcoming elections.


In the announcement captioned, “NOTICE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS“ signed by Prof. Christian Ngwu, Ph.D, MNAL, the Executive Chairman of ENSIEC dated May 17, 2024, Prof. Ngwu emphasized the importance of widespread participation and adherence to the electoral guidelines to ensure a fair and transparent election.


The announcements reads in full, “ The Enugu State Independent Electoral commission wishes to inform all registered political parties and the general public that local government elections in the State will be held on Saturday, 5th October, 2024.


“Election guidelines and other details can be collected from the Headquarters of Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) at Independence Layout Enugu.“


However, The commission emphasized its  commitment to conduct a credible and efficient election that reflects the will of the people. For more information or inquiries, parties and individuals can contact the ENSIEC office directly.


This upcoming election is a pivotal event for Enugu State, as it will determine the leadership at the local government level and influence the region's development trajectory.
