Aba, Abia State – Two soldiers from the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, were killed by unidentified gunmen in an attack on their outpost at the Aba main motor park along Asa Road. The attack, which occurred around 8 PM, also claimed the life of a man believed to be a keke (tricycle) operator.

Sources report that the gunmen ambushed the soldiers, leading to a firefight. While some soldiers managed to repel the attackers, the assailants escaped with the weapons of the fallen soldiers. One soldier died at the scene, while the other succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses at the Asa Road/Park Road/Milverton Avenue junction described the sudden burst of gunfire that disrupted the evening, causing panic among motorists and passengers. The attack led to chaos in the bustling area, particularly around Milverton Avenue, a hub for luxury bus transport.

Business owners near the General Post Office, opposite the military outpost, abandoned their shops as soldiers secured the area. A luxury bus transport operator noted that their operations were halted, with buses unable to load passengers heading to Lagos and other destinations.

In response to the attack, vehicle movement has been restricted between the main motor park and Bata Junction, which houses another military outpost. This has forced motorists to seek alternative routes around the city. Pedestrian access through the military barricades is limited to women, who must walk with their hands raised.

Efforts to obtain a statement from Lt. Omale Innocent, the Army Public Relations Officer of the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages. An Abia State government official, speaking anonymously, assured that efforts are underway to restore calm in the area.

This incident follows a similar attack months ago on a military outpost at Ngwa Road by No.1 Port Harcourt Road, Aba, where no casualties were reported. The recent attack has heightened security concerns and disrupted daily life in Aba, as authorities work to address the situation.
