A recent visit by President Bola Tinubu to Lagos has sparked controversy, as a viral video revealed a convoy of 82 vehicles accompanying him. The convoy, comprising SUVs, pick-ups, vans, cars, and motorbikes, was seen on a road closed to other users, drawing sharp criticism from citizens and political commentators alike.

The video, lasting one minute and 30 seconds, was posted by Comrade Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress. Sowore lambasted President Tinubu for what he described as extravagant and insensitive behavior in light of the economic struggles faced by many Nigerians.

"This is the unending petro-gas-guzzling convoy of Tinubu @officialABAT during one of his trips to Lagos," Sowore wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. "Do these people act like Nigeria can’t feed its poor? Look at the life they live. They tell the population to endure untold and inhumane hardship while they live large at the expense of people experiencing life-threatening poverty! #RevolutionNow."

The public's reaction to the video was swift and critical. Twitter user @PureStanley1 highlighted the disparity between the government's claims of economic hardship and the President's lavish convoy.

"Bode George said Tinubu inherited a poorly run country from Buhari's administration, but in this video Tinubu has 61 SUV convoys escorting him. They shutdown the road for Tinubu and his 61 convoy escorts to pass. Later they will try to gaslight Nigerians that NIGERIA IS BROKE, AND THEY CAN'T PAY N100K minimum wage."

Another user, @IgonorMathias, expressed frustration over the government's disregard for the cost of governance. "Nigeria leaders care less about cost of Governance and their lifestyle. They don't care if they spend millions on convoys and maintenance of private jets and the rest. Until Nigeria Government are ready to cut cost, we will continue to borrow huge loans."

The criticism comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with significant economic challenges, including inflation, unemployment, and inadequate public services. The use of an extensive convoy by the President, in this context, has intensified the debate on government spending and the priorities of the nation's leadership.

The administration has yet to respond to the backlash, but the video and ensuing criticism underscore a growing discontent among citizens regarding perceived government extravagance amid widespread economic hardship.
