Shooting Stars Edge Out Enugu Rangers Amidst Penalty Controversy in NPFL Clash | #NwokeukwuMascot

Ibadan, Nigeria — In a closely contested Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) match, Shooting Stars secured a 1-0 victory over Enugu Rangers at the Lekan Salami Stadium on matchday 36. The match was marked by a contentious decision, as Enugu Rangers were denied a penalty, which many felt was clear-cut.


Christian Pyagbara, the 28-year-old forward, scored the decisive goal in the 13th minute, giving Shooting Stars the lead and ultimately, the win. This defeat marked the 10th of the season for Enugu Rangers, who are vying for the 2023-2024 NPFL title.


Despite the loss, Enugu Rangers maintain their top position on the NPFL table with 64 points from 36 games. They remain two points ahead of second-placed Remo Stars, four points ahead of Enyimba in third place, and five points clear of fourth-placed Shooting Stars. With just two matches remaining in the season, Rangers need to secure at least a win and a draw to clinch the title, provided Remo Stars do not gain additional points.

Enugu Rangers came into this fixture on the back of a resounding win against Enyimba, where they were awarded three goals and three points from an abandoned match. However, they failed to replicate that form against Shooting Stars.


As the NPFL season nears its climax, the title race remains tight. Enugu Rangers will need to regroup quickly to ensure they secure the necessary points in their final two games to emerge as champions. The outcome of these matches will determine whether they can fend off the challenges from Remo Stars and Enyimba.
