Tragic Incident: 40-Year-Old Woman Self-Immolates After Divorce in Jigawa | #NwokeukwuMascot

A 40-year-old woman tragically took her own life by setting herself on fire after her husband divorced her in Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State, according to local police.



In a statement issued on Friday in Dutse, Jigawa police spokesperson Lawan Shiisu confirmed the heartbreaking incident. He stated that the woman, a resident of Garin Mallam village, had been severely distressed following her divorce.





"On Thursday, at approximately 7:40 a.m., the command received a report of a tragic and pitiful incident from Guri LGA. A 40-year-old woman from Garin Mallam village poured petrol on herself, set herself ablaze, and was burnt beyond recognition on the outskirts of the village," Shiisu explained.





Upon receiving the report, officers from the Guri Divisional Police Headquarters immediately responded to the scene, where they confirmed the incident. The charred remains of the woman were taken to the hospital and later released to her family for burial.




Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had been suffering from depression in the months following her divorce. The Jigawa State Police Commissioner, Ahmadu Abdullahi, urged the public to seek divine guidance and support during difficult times.






Commissioner Abdullahi also advised individuals facing complex personal issues to seek advice and counseling from elders to prevent such tragic outcomes.
